International Conference on Intelligent Technologies for Enhanced LearningSalamanca, Spain - From 22/05/2013 to 24/05/2013 |
 |
|
Education is the cornerstone of any society and it is the basis of most of the values and characteristics of that society. The new knowledge society offers significant opportunities for new techniques and applications, especially in the fields of education and learning. Learning technology provides communication, information and related technologies to support learning activities. The new communication technologies propose a new paradigm focused on integrating learning techniques based on active learning (learning by doing things, exchange of information with other users and the sharing of resources), with techniques based on passive learning (learning by seeing and hearing, Montessori, etc.). During the last years the role of the intelligent systems has become increasable relevant. Intelligent systems learn how to act so they can reach their objectives. This characteristic makes them very appropriated to be applied to Learning technology.
This event will provide a forum to discuss the latest research in Intelligent Systems and TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) and its impacts for learners and institutions. It intends to bring together researchers and developers from industry and the academic world to report on the latest scientific and technical advances on intelligent systems and technology enhanced learning, to discuss and debate the major issues, and to showcase the latest systems using these technologies.

8th International Conference on ICT for Development, Education & TrainingSafari Conference Centre, Windhoek, Namibia - From 29/05/2013 to 31/05/2013 |
 |
|
eLearning Africa's innovative conference programme brings together over 300 speakers and chairpersons from 50 countries. Highlights include pre-conference workshops, plenary sessions featuring internationally acknowledged eLearning experts, networking opportunities and a wide variety of session formats.
Under the overall theme of tradition, change and innovation, eLearning Africa 2013 will examine the experiences, projects, investments, policies, partnerships and research that are shaping the Continent's learning landscape.
New technologies combined with a pioneering spirit to improve lives are already changing the way we learn, work, and play. How are African youth shaping their identities and navigating different learning spaces with these technologies? How are universities, governments and the private sector working together to grow a culture of innovation on the Continent? Are new technologies fundamentally disruptive to tradition or do they open up space for the digitisation of tradition?
The Conference
Meeting the networking needs of the pan-African eLearning and distance education sector, the annual eLearning Africa conference is the key networking venue for practitioners and professionals from Africa and all over the world.
Main Facts:
- eLA is the largest gathering of eLearning and ICT supported education and training professionals in Africa, enabling participants to develop multinational and cross-industry contacts and partnerships, as well as to enhance their knowledge, expertise and abilities.

PALE 2013
3rd International Workshop on Personalization Approaches in Learning Environments (PALE)Rome, Italy - From 10/06/2013 to 14/06/2013 |
Personalization approaches in learning environments can be addressed from different perspectives and also in various educational settings, including formal, informal, workplace, lifelong, mobile, contextualized, and self-regulated learning. PALE workshop offers an opportunity to present and discuss a wide spectrum of issues and solutions, such as pedagogic conversational agents, personal learning environments, and learner modeling.
Previous PALE editions (i.e. at PALE 2011 and PALE 2012) have shown several important issues in this field, such as behavior and embodiment of pedagogic agents, suitable support of self-regulated learning, appropriate balance between learner control and expert guidance, design of personal learning environments, contextual recommendations at various levels of the learning process, tracking affective states of learners, harmonization of educational and technological standards, processing big data for learning purposes, predicting student outcomes, adaptive learning assessment, and evaluation of personalized learning solutions.
The higher-level research question to be addressed in the workshop is: "What are suitable approaches to personalize learning environments?" It will be considered in various contexts of interactive, personal, and inclusive learning environments.
PALE format moves away from the classic 'mini-conferences' approach and follows the Learning Cafe methodology to promote discussions on some of the open issues regarding personalization in learning environments. Two Learning Cafes will be set up. Each one consists in brief presentations of the key questions posed and small group discussions with participants randomly grouped in tables. Each table will be moderated by one expert in the topic under discussion and participants will change tables during the discussion with the aim to share ideas among the groups.
Submissions of original on-going works and previously unpublished research related to the Workshop Topics are requested.

THE JOY OF LEARNING - Enhancing Learning Experience Improving Learning QualityUniversity of Oslo, Oslo - From 12/06/2013 to 15/06/2013 |
 |
|
E-learning, open and distance education have been increasingly important fields of intellectual excitement and innovative development. The challenges posed by the new technologies are permanent, and students constantly keep teachers under pressure to develop. The human elements are moving to the forefront, employing creative methods and smart solutions. In Europe, despite economic and social pressures, there is a collective drive towards realising the creative potential.
Standards and accountability have also been emphasized but personalization of learning, individual and collective motivation, enhancement of the learning experience, and an overall improvement of learning quality are gaining ever-increasing traction.
Learning is becoming more and more individualized and self-managed. Personalization helps foster motivation and engagement, and supports awareness and motivation. Personal learning environments and personalized assessment (including learning analytics) offer resources to monitor and assess the process.
How can we do our best to make learning a thrilling experience for learners, including providing a sense of joy in the virtual classroom?
The question is an exciting one and discussion and debate will provide a range of innovative theories and approaches, and help to determine the tools necessary to achieve our goals. Should they be about the smart use of ICT tools, new methodologies for enhanced learning experience, content management systems, or about fascinating inter-disciplinary solutions supported by e.g. game based learning, immersive environments, multimedia, etc. The answers we will find may be dynamic and or even provoking.
The EDEN 2013 Conference will discover and present the latest best practice in this field, share progressive concepts, inventive solutions, and promote joint-thinking and collaboration.
