LTSC
The Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC), formerly P1484, is chartered by the IEEE Computer Society Standards Activity Board to develop accredited technical standards, recommended practices and guides for learning technology. The LTSC coordinates formally and informally with other organizations that produce specifications and standards for similar purposes.

Standards development is done in working groups via a combination of face-to-face meetings, teleconferences, and exchanges on discussion groups. The LTSC is governed by a Sponsor Executive Committee (SEC) consisting of working group chairs and elected officers. The LTSC includes the LTSC Sponsor, the Sponsor Executive Committee, a balloting pool for forming LTSC Sponsor balloting groups, and a set of Working Groups (WGs) and Study Groups (SGs), their officers and a wider group of participants in its activities.
LTSC Policies and Procedures
The IEEE LTSC Policies and Procedures assure an open, transparent, consensus-driven process for developing accredited learning technology standards. Membership is open to any individual with a material interest in LTSC work.

Active Working Groups include:
  • 1484.11 Computer Managed Instruction (CMI). This group is interested on the definition of a standard set of CMI (Computer Managed Instruction) functions and a matching set of CBT (Computer Based Training) functions. The final goal is to support the complementation and integration of CBT lessons developed in different locations with different Tools by different people.
  • 1484.12 Learning Object Metadata (LOM). This group is working on the syntax and semantics of Learning Object Metadata, defined as the attributes required to fully/adequately describe a Learning Object
  • 1484.13 Resource Aggregation Models for Learning Education and Training (RAMLET). RAMLET is developing a standard that will help understand, represent and map diverse resource aggregation specifications and standards. In simple terms, it provides a framework for mapping different types of packaging specifications to each other.
  • 1484.20 Competencies. It has published a standard for Reusable Competency Definitions (RCD) and is in the process of adding other related competency technology standards. Particularly it is working on an aggregation model for competencias.
