IMS Interactive WhiteBoard/ Common File Format Public Draft Specification Released for Comment

( 16/01/2012 )
The Interactive WhiteBoard/Common File Format (IWB/CFF) specification defines a file format to hold content primarily designed to be viewed on a large display. Much of this content will be designed to be interactive, so objects can move around the page.

The primary goal of this format is to establish a format that can be opened, edited, saved and used across many whiteboard applications so that teaching content can be exchanged between establishments. To this goal the format must be simple but extendible in a restricted way to ensure compatibility.

The Interactive Whiteboard / Common File Format (IWB/CFF) Public draft is available for comment. Comments and Feedback may be posted in the IMS Public Forums at: http://www.imsglobal.org/community/forum/categories.cfm?catid=145&flcache=8460711&entercat=y

Conformance will be available for IWB/CFF Alliance members.

Blackboard Supports Sharing of Digital Learning Objects

( 17/11/2011 )
Education technology company Blackboard wants to open up. This week at Educause, a prominent higher education IT conference taking place in Philadelphia, the company said it will support the publishing, sharing, and consumption of educational resources across its platforms. Blackboard has also updated a user policy to allow institutions to let its non-traditional users work with its learning management system, Blackboard Learn, without additional license costs.

The company is working with Creative Commons, an organization that has built legal structures that enable participants to share their content while still maintaining copyrights. The LMS vendor will support instructors publishing and sharing their courses under a Creative Commons Attribution license. That, in turn, will enable anybody to preview and download the course content in Blackboard and Common Cartridge formats.

  • New namespace locations for all schemas.
  • QTI items must include the cc_profile metadata.
  • QTI Fill-In-The_Blank response processing will allow OR in addition to AND and NOT.  This is not strictly something new, but rather OR was omitted incorrectly from CC v1.1.
