Share.TEC collaboration with EdReNe

( 15/01/2010 )
The EdReNe is a thematic network funded by the EC under the eContentplus program. The collaboration with the Share.TEC project is presented here
EdReNe brings together members from web-based repositories of learning resources with content owners and other stakeholders within education. EdReNe shares, develops and documents strategies, experiences and solutions on the organisation, structuring and functionality of repositories. The overall goal is to improve the provision of and access to learning resources across Europe.

EdReNe members include potential Share.TEC stakeholders who are key players in education at both national and European levels. The services they run focus primarily on meeting educational needs in the K-12 sector, i.e. on supporting teachers’ access to and sharing of digital resources for the purposes of (a) enhancing students’ learning and (b) furthering teachers’ own professional development. Synergies with Share.TEC lie full square in the latter area; a number of services run by EdReNe members are dedicated partially - in some cases wholly - to this pursuit. As described in the report “State of the Art (2) – European Education Repositories”(pdf), existing repositories in EdReNe that share common ground and interest with Share.TEC include:

  • KlasCement (BE) “…primary and secondary education, teacher training, adult ed.”
  • LeMill (EE) “…descriptions of teaching and learning methods and tools”
  • Opettaja.tv (FI) “… online in-service teacher training courses”
  • Gold (IT) “…teachers’ pedagogical experiences (with digital resources)”
  • Scoilnet (IE) “…curriculum and training materials for teachers”
  • Teachers.tv (UK) “…videos for professional development and classroom use”

The report also reveals that practically all EdReNe members identify teachers as their main target, thus confirming the common interest in teachers’ professional development.

Action Plan For Share.TEC/EdReNe Clustering

  • EdReNe invited presentation at Second Share.TEC Workshop, Dublin, 8-10 June, 2009
  • Share.TEC invited presentation at EdReNe 3rd Expert Workshop, Linz, 18-20 Nov. 2009.
  • Share.TEC Associate Membership of EdReNe (pending)
  • Share.TEC participation in Final EdReNe Strategic Seminar, Barcelona, 24-26 March, 2010
Share.TEC recognises the strategic importance of EdReNe in the field of digital resources for education in Europe, and has thus sought to consolidate links with this fellow eContentplus initiative. Accordingly, the EdReNe Coordinator Leo Højsholt-Poulsen of Uni.C (Danish IT Centre for Education and Research) was invited to the Second Share.TEC Workshop held in Dublin (8-10 June, 2009), where he gave an invited presentation: “Current directions in educational repositories”.

Subsequently, EdReNe invited a Share.TEC representative to make a presentation at its 3rd Expert Workshop on Engaging Users and Producers, held in Linz, Austria, 18-20 November, 2009. Participation in this workshop proved to be an valuable opportunity for Share.TEC to make direct contact with key players in the field of digital education resources in Europe.

On EdReNe’s invitation, Share.TEC has now joined the network as an Associate Member and will participate in the Final EdReNe Strategic Seminar to be held in Barcelona, Spain, 24th-26th March 2010. This major event will gather representatives from the whole EdReNe network, and will thus represent a major opportunity for consolidating Share.TEC’s position in Europe’s educational repository landscape.
